What is a good reptile for a beginner?

i know all about heat mats and that some need U.V lights etcWhat is a good reptile for a beginner?
An iguana. They are easy to care for as long as you follow a few rules.

They are cheap.

And there is a lot of literature on them. What is a good reptile for a beginner?
if you want a small reptile you can go with a anole or long tailed lizard, or a crested gecko.

also other good beginner reptiles are:

bearded dragons

leopard geckos

corn snake

ball python

an iguana is not a good beginner reptile because they grow to be huge! and can bite and whip their tail at you. they may be good for some people but not for all. they are hard to care for and take time.

for the 2 snakes i mentioned you could start them off in a 20 gallon sized tank if they are babies. they just need a regular heat lamp or you could get them one of those UV heat lamps that is bright during the day then at night when the lights are off it sort of glows in the dark and turns a light blue as if it was night time for them. the snake(s) would need a hiding log, a branch to climb on and for feeding time you could feed them 1 or 2 adult mice a week. the ball pythons are more laid back slow moving snakes and corn snakes are fast and skinny.

the ball python gets to be 5 ft but thick and the corn snakes get to be 5 to 6 ft but skinny.

when you feed the corn snake you can feed it pinkies or small adult mice.

Leopard Geckos eat crickets and can eat veggies and are easy to breed. they are friendly little reptiles.

Anoles are tiny and eat crickets, they need to be fed everyday and dont really need a lamp as much because they go by whatever temperature the room is. they change colors to match their surroundings and to give them water you can spray some with a spray bottle and they will drink the water off the glass or whatever. they can be handeled but move fast because it is their instinct.

crested geckos can make excellent pets. they love to be held and can change colors a little bit. what makes them so cool is their backs feel a little like leather like nice and soft and their bellies feel really soft. they have good temperments and like to be out of the cage. they dont bite at all and they eat crickets too.

no matter what reptile you get besides the snakes though make sure you buy some calcium powder for them and sprinkle it on the crickets or whatever you are feeding them so they can get the proper nutrients from that too and their food.
get a leopard gecko !

they dont grow to big (about 8'') and they are quite easily tamed they live about 20 years and come in all different colour morphs . Mine is 3 years old and one of the best pets ive ever had !

good luck !
Iguanas are not considered beginner reptiles...some that are beginner reptiles are:

leopard gecko

bearded dragon

blue tongue skink
I would recommend a Leopard Gecko. In addition to being marked rather strikingly, they need minimal in terms of their environment to live in, and they also only live on the ground, so you don't have to worry about them escaping (they have no adhesive pads on their feet) If you want to know more about them, check out this link: http://www.leopardgeckocare.net/
