Best fish tank for a beginner?

Hello! My husband and I are thinking of getting fish. We'd like a fish tank that is inexpensive and easy to clean- low mess and a great filter. Could anybody recommend a simple fish tank? Thanks so much!Best fish tank for a beginner?
My first tank was a ten gallon. The whole kit ran about $35, which included the tank, hood w/ light, filter, a trial thing of water treatment and a little bit of food. I got it at walmart, and so far it's holding up great.

One note about guppies: They reproduce like rabbits. So if you get them, make sure you get males as the females could already be pregnant when you bring them home.Best fish tank for a beginner?
Go for the biggest tank you can afford/fit. Larger amounts of water are easier to manage. 200l is a decent starting size but certainly a minimum of 100l.

Read up on 'Fishless Cycling'

There are many good makes of aquarium out there basically they tend to do the same thing - hold water. Best advice is to get hold of a good quality 2nd hand one and save a LOT of money. then spend that money on a good external filter that is at least 20% bigger than it says you need - the filter is the key to clean water and healthy fish.

A bigger tank gives you far more choice in fish which means after your cycle you can get interesting yet easy to maintain fish that will not rapidly breed and overstock the tank or be hard to get rid of.

Juwel, Fluval, Rena all make decent tanks but as I said 2nd hand is just as good and much cheaper.
Shell Dweller Cichlids! I've set up all kinds of aquariums and probably my favorite (if I had to chose one) and some of they easiest to take care of were: Neolamprologus occelatus ';gold';, Neolamprologus multifasciatus, and Neolamprologus brevis. I was able to breed all three kinds without even trying, and raised the fry to adults, they are very entertaining, very smart, they have personalities, and they defend their babies and shells to the death. They stay pretty small, full grown just under 2 inches. You won't have to worry about them outgrowing the tank.
get a 29 gallon tank and do a ';fishless cycle'; and then buy angel fish, and mollies and maybe even gurami fish will do just fine.
